Jakob Dirks Wilbers (as listed in German church records), the only son of Hangard N. Wilberts and his first wife, Hauke J. Detmers, was born and baptized in Germany. He came to America in October 1882. It is believed that he settled first in Illinois, then moved to Nebraska where he married Mata/Meta Müsken/Müsker in Platte County in 1885. They then moved to Dawson County in Nebraska and finally to South Dakota where they lived for the rest of their lives. Jacob (Jake), a well known and respected farmer, died at the age of 71 years. He was survived by his wife, ten of his children and his two sisters who had also immigrated to the United States. A third sister (Jantjen Wilhemina (Wilberts) Luitjens) remained in Germany. Four children had preceded him in death. Besides the children listed below, there was a daughter (Maria) who was born and died in Dawson County at less than 2 years of age and a son, Frederick who died in infancy.
