WELL-KNOWN GOREE MAN DIES IN WACO-Everett Lawrence Barger, 76, a longtime Goree resident, died Tuesday morning, March 10, in Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Funeral services were at 10am Thursday, March 12, at the First Baptist Church in Goree with Rev. Benny Hagan of Cisco officating. buriel was in the Goree Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday. Serving as pallbearers were Martin Bowman, John Loyd Lambeth, Harold Jones, Don Coffman and Gaylon Hord. Barger was born May 21, 1910 in Paris and had lived in Goree many years. He was a former tax assessor/collector and feed store operator. A member of the First Baptist Church in Goree, he married Mary Naomi Turner, May 25, 1940. Mrs. Barger retired last year as postmaster at the Goree Post Office. The couple moved from Goree to Waco in December 1986. He is survuved by his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Judy Barger of Waco; five sisters, Mra. Fleta Mayo, Mrs. Dixie Bradley and Mrs. Etta Mae Frazier, all of Goree, Mrs. Dorothy Williams of Pasadena and Mrs. Barbara Coffman of Munday;one borther, Jack Barger of Fort Worth;and two grandchildren, Jason and Jana Barger of Waco. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
