Roberta (Wood) Able, age 81 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday evening, October 3, 2013 at her home in Martinsville.

Roberta was born on February 3, 1932 to the late Hubert & Rhoda (Cottman) Wood. She was a 1950 graduate of Whitewater High School in Indiana and went on to attend Cincinnati Bible College. She married her devoted husband of 62 years, Norman R. Able on July 27, 1951 in Whitewater. He survives.

Roberta is also survived by her loving children Tamara (Richard) Peck of Martinsville, Daniel (Janda) Able of Greenwood, Kevin (Lee) Able of Martinsville, Timothy (Ronda) Able & Kimberly (Keith) Payne, both of Indianapolis. She will be remembered by her 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; sister: Barbara Jean Planck of Florida; and a niece: Lucretia Scammahorn of Indianapolis.

Roberta was preceded in death by one grandson: Caleb Able; siblings: Lucille Scammahorn, Pauline Wood, Betty Brown, Tracy, Earl & Ray Wood.

She retired in 2005 from L. S. Ayres & Co. working both in the Lafayette and Greenwood stores, after 20 years of service. Her true passion was working with children and teaching them about God. Being a Preacher's wife for 62 years, she established many children's programs at various churches and was involved in the Morgan County Religious Education for 13 years. Roberta was a former day care assistant at Tiny Tots in Martinsville and a Head Start Teacher in Williamsport. She was known for her great cooking and catered many functions including: weddings, Christmas parties and church functions.

Roberta was a member of the River Valley Christian Church in Martinsville where she was the Director of 4 & 5 year olds ministry. She loved her family, church family and will be greatly missed by all those she touched, especially the thousands of children she worked with.

The Rev. Kevin Able will conduct a funeral service on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the River Valley Christian Church, 4295 Egbert Road in Martinsville. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Martinsville. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
