Funeral services for Thomas Leander Calhoun, 79, who died Saturday, were held Sunday afternoon at New Hope Baptist Church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. He was a native of Wayne County but had lived in the New Hope neighborhood 70 years and was a progressive farmer and useful citizen. He lived a Christian life and was respected by all who knew him. He was the husband of Martha Haney Calhoun, who preceded him in death eleven years. He was the father of six children and had 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by the following children, John W. Calhoun, James L. Calhoun, Columbus Calhoun and Jerry Calhoun of New Castle, Indiana.
