James Clarke
James Elbert Clarke died Friday at Healdsburg Hospital. He was 94.
Born in Rutherford on July 17, 1898, Mr. Clarke was educated at Yount School and attended Napa Business College.
He married Hazel Clarke, now deceased, on April 30, 1924.
Mr. Clarke began a career in the lumber business with the Napa Lumber Company in 1918, later becoming manager for the Calistoga and St. Helena yards. He became manager for the Hammond Lumber Co. in Healdsburg in 1945 and retired from the company in 1958.
Mr. Clarke then worked for the Meade Clark Lumber Company in Santa Rosa, retiring in 1967.
He was a past member of the Calistoga Rotary Club and the St. Helena Rotary Club, and a member and past president of the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club. Mr. Clark was the oldest member of the Native Sons of the Golden West and Parlor#86. P.B.O.E #832 in Napa. He was also a member of Sotoyome-Curtis Lodge #123 F.& A.M.; Scottish Rite Bodies of Santa Rosa; Sonoma County Shrine Club; A.A.H.M.E.S Temple of Oakland, and the Healdsburg Men's Golf Club.
Mr. Clarke served on the Healdsburg City Council from 1962-1966.
He is survived by his son, James E. Clark Jr. of Napa; daughter Jeanne Stanton of Healdsburg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is at Fred Young & Co. Mortuary in Healdsburg on Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the mortuary with the officers of Sotoyome-Curtis Lodge #123 F.& A.M. officiating. Interment will be at Yountville Cemetery on Monday at 3 p.m.
