Born in Rockbridge County Aug. 18, 1900, he was a son of the late John R. Burks and Mildred Ogden Burks.
A member of the Falling Spring Presbyterian Chuch, he was a farmer.
His survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bonnie H. Burks; two daughters, Mrs. John Kelly of Roanoke and Mrs. Leonard Bolt of Natural Bridge; three sons, Dewey Wayne Burks of Roanoke, and Porter D. Burks Jr. of Glasgow; two sisters, Mrs. Hunter Goodbar of Covington and Mrs. H. E. Claytor of Glasgow; and six grandchildren.
The Rev. Robert R. Tolar and the REv. Hugh Shiley conducted services at Falling Spring Presbyterian Church today at 3 pm with burial in the church cemetery.
