Samuel Vanatta and Mary Dickey were married in Washington Co., PA in 1815. This fact by itself makes it seriously unlikely that Hannah Matilda Babbitt (nee Vanatta) was their daughter since Hannah was born in 1813.

Furthermore, the Rachel Vanatta, age 26, found in Samuel's household in 1850, is also not his daughter. Rachel was Rachel A. Garrett, the widow of Samuel's son, Jonathan Harvey Vanatta, who died in February, 1849. Per Jonathan's last will and testament, he left two minor daughters, Sarah Minerva and Mary Matilda. Rachel married Phineas Moore sometime before 1855 and had several children with him. In 1860, Sarah Minerva, Mary Matilda and another child, Eliza Vanatta, are found living with Phineas and Rachel Moore in Richhill Twp.
