Edward William Marshall, 77, a resident of Homestead Mews, North Bennington, Vt., died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Bennington, Vt., on Sept. 19, 1925, his parents were William G. and Susan (Robinson) Marshall. He received his education in schools in both Bennington and Michigan.
In the early 1940s, he worked in the oil fields in Texas before coming back to Vermont, where he married and made his home. For many years, he was employed at the former BenMont Corp. where he met his wife, and later at Bijur Lubricating until his retirement in 1982. He also worked painting houses and picking apples.
He married the former Pauline Hilse at St. Peter's Church on Oct. 28, 1950.
Mr. Marshall was a former member of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for many years. He was also a member of the North Bennington Baptist Church.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, watching and feeding the birds, camping with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a great storyteller and his stories will be greatly missed by family, friends and acquaintances.
Besides his wife of North Bennington, he leaves three daughters, Martha Leister of Bennington, Sharon Appell of Pittsfield and Lynne Cassano of Bennington; two sisters, Lorraine White and Suzanne Quackenbush both of Bennington; four grandchildren, Christopher Howell of Farr West, Silvia Cassano of Bennington, Rachel Appell and Emily Appell both of Pittsfield, Mass.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son, Wayne Marshall, and two sisters Lucy Thibodeau and Patricia Tesch, are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edward Marshall will be held Wednesday, April 2, 10 a.m., from the North Bennington Baptist Church, Church Street, North Bennington, with Rev. David Jinno, pastor, officiating. Private committal services will take place at Bellevue Cemetery in Adams, Mass., at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours are Tuesday, 5-8 p.m., at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Autism Society of America or the Vermont Chapter of the American Lung Association through the funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, Vt. 05201.
