Mrs. Adele Harms, a resident of Barron County since 1901, died Friday after a lengthy illness. She was 79 years old.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Cedar Lake Lutheran Church, with Rev. Martin officiating, and burial was in the Cedar Lake cemetery.
Mrs. Harms who was born Aug. 18, 1877, in Germany, came to the United States at the age of 17. She was married in February 1897 to John Harms, who died 37 years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Olson of Rice Lake and Mrs. Julia Gilbertson of Rt. 2, Birchwood; four sons, Harm of Sterling, Ill., Henry of Bismarck, N. Dak., William of St. David Ill., and Adolph of Redlands, Calif.; one brother, one sister, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He remembers riding his bicycle to her house to see her. He says that she was a heavyset woman and spoke with a thick German accent. For example, he recalls that she would say "brot" instead of bread. She was a kind woman who was always happy to see her grandchildren. She always seemed to be cooking a roast beef and potatoes. He only saw her one time after he left Wisconsin in 1945 with his mother, Nina, and that was when Grandma Adele took a trip to Spokane
