Allen J. Blackner, 77, died May 1, 2005 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born Nov. 28, 1927 in Beaver, Utah to Allen James Blackner and Ethel Baldwin Blackner. He married Mary Ann Yelton in Boise; they later divorced. He married Betty Jean Brinkerhoff Sept. 16, 1982. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2003.

Allen enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946 after graduating from Beaver High School, where he took a prominent part in athletics and other school activities. His career in the Navy took him to many countries throughout the world. He saw active duty in Kodiak, Alaska, Japan, and the Philippine Islands, and he served as the U.S. naval attache at the Moscow, USSR embassy. He retired from the Navy as a chief petty officer in 1966. He received many commendations while serving his country.

After retiring Allen spent several years in administrative positions in Boise and served as secretary/club manager of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. After moving to Cedar City he worked as a sales representative for Century Equipment Co. and was house manager for the Cedar City Elks Lodge for two years.

He worked in the administrative office with the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah in Cedar City. His duties with the tribe included not only the managing of government grants and contracts but the day-to-day operations and management of a large tribal staff.

Allen was happiest when he was in the mountains hunting and fishing with his son Bob and weekend camping with his and Betty´s friends. He enjoyed the evenings he spent around the campfire with his brother Ken and his nephews at the deer camp.

He is survived by his son Bob (Barbara) of Cedar City and his grandchildren Cody and Alycyn; two brothers, Ken Blackner (Carol) of Cedar City and Gary Blackner (Jane) of Tacoma, Wash.; also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, a brother, Ronald and sister Mary Lou.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2005 in the Beaver, Utah 1st and 2nd LDS Ward at 12:00 p.m. Viewing will be Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Southern Utah Mortuary in Cedar City from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Viewing will also be at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Beaver 1st and 2nd LDS Ward Thursday, before the funeral.
