A. Mervin Breland was a funeral director in McCook, Nebraska from 1933 until his death in 1974. Merv was born and raised in South Dakota, and graduated from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1929. He worked for several years for the H.K. Burket & Son Funeral Home in Omaha, Nebraska. Eventually he moved to McCook, Nebraska were he became involved with the Pade Furniture & Undertaking Company. After many obstacles Merv purchased the Pade business. He was involved in the recovery efforts in the aftermath of the massive Republican River Flood, and Merv also conducted the funeral and burial of the famous U. S. Senator George Norris in 1944. Merv was a member of the Elks, the Congregational Church, and loved to drive his 1958 Oldsmobile Comet ambulance. He married Bernice who became National President of P.E.O.
