Thanks to late Findagrave member JEM (James Edward "Jim" McRay, Jr), who found JW's death date and last name "According to the Nelson County Historical Society in their book Cemeteries of Nelson County, Virginia published in 2011 ... J.W. Ashley, born 10/25/1869, died 07/21/1906".

Graham Notes
The Graham Lodge I O O F turned out in large numbers yesterday to attend the funeral services of Mr Ashley at Falls Mills. Mr Ashley, after a lingering illness of several weeks, died about 7 pm Saturday. The remains were shipped on No 16 yesterday to his former home at Oak Ridge, Va, on the Southern Railway. Mr Ashley was a man of exceptionally fine character and stood high among the members of this order. Deceased has been engaged in the mercantile business at Falls Mills for several years, and was considered quite successful. The corpse was accompanied to its destination by members of the Lodge, Mr Harold Mathews and Mr Dailey Staidess.

Mr John Ashley, one of our leading merchants, died here recently of typhoid fever. He had lived here several years, was highly respected, and will be greatly missed. The remains were taken to his old home in Franklin county for burial.
