Captain Clary was the pilot of a AD-2 Skyraider fighter with the Marine Attack Squadron 121, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. He was listed as Missing in Action while participating in aerial support over Korea on August 29, 1952. He was presumed dead on December 18, 1953.

Distinguished Flying Cross, Air medal with 2 Gold Stars, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
