STOUT RESEARCH CENTER MENOMONIE: 1919 Obituary on G. W. Barnes
"George Barnes Sr., a former resident of Menomonie, but of late years a resident of Minneapolis and Robinsdale, Minnesota, died Thursday, December 18, 6 a.m. at Minneapolis City Hospital with cancer and crysipeias. Mr. Barnes was operated on for cancer at Williams Hospital after which crysipeias set in to cause his death.
Mr. Barnes was 80 years of age February 22. He was born in Canifton, Ontario and had moved to Menomonie about forty-two years ago. He was employed with Knapp, Stout & Company for 25 years. The deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. W.C. Sills of Minneapolis and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Clayton, Washington, his wife and five children who reside in Menomonie.
Mr. Barnes was a man of quiet disposition and was well like by all who knew him. He leaves a host of friends in Minneapolis and Robinsdale. The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Mr. White of Robindale and burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery."
According to Evergreen Cemetery records Menomonie, Dunn County, Wisconsin, George died in Minneapolis [MN certificate #022048] and was a widower. He died of "Erysipeles of face" at 80 years 9 months and 26 days. He was the only family member to be placed ("vault") in plot 696. The rest of the Barnes' are in plots 1032 or 1038.
George and Martha lived separate lives for many years. George moved to and lived with his sister, Sarah Barnes Sills, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He died there. Family story indicates George was not interred with his family because of a "rift."
