Kenneth H. Dolloff, 92, of Scarborough, passed away at the Barron Center on Nov. 1, 2012, with is family at his side.

Ken was born the son of the late Harold Sewell and Eva Mae (Burnell) Dolloff in Mount Vernon on April 1, 1920. His family moved to Scarborough when he was 12 years old. He started the sixth grade in Scarborough and graduated from high school in 1940. While in high school, Ken was an outstanding athlete earning 12 letters in five sports, including track, hockey, and he stood out as a basketball star. One Scarborough High student recently broke his record for sport letters. After high school he landed a job at Saco Lowell Company in Saco. After the attack on Pearl Harbor he was drafted into the Army where he served as a medic. Ken was a member of the second wave of the Normandy Invasion with the 820th Engineers. After the war Ken returned to Scarborough and married his wife Eleanor Wentworth Dolloff and together raised two children. He spent his days working as a self-employed TV repair man and worked nights as a special police officer at Scarborough Downs and with the Scarborough Fire Department. Later he was part owner and manager of Scarborough Norge Village. He eventually retired from the Maine Youth Center, and then drove cars for Avis after retirement. Ken has a lifelong commitment to the Scarborough community. He was involved with many organizations including: VFW, 60 year member of the Gov. King Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Kora Shrine, assistant Boy Scout Master, and West Scarborough Methodist Church Men's Club. The American Legion helped Ken maintain relationships with his fellow Veterans. He helped bring the Maine Veteran's Home into Scarborough. Ken also taught classes and gave tours of the World War II museum to children so that the new generation would know what the war was about. He was able to attend the 50th Anniversary of D-Day held in Normandy, France. In his free time he enjoyed Fly Fishing at Horseshoe Pond.

He was predeceased by his brother, Maynard A. Dolloff, and his sister, Evelyn Dolloff who was killed on her 18th birthday in an auto accident.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor W. Dolloff, of 66 years; son David K. Dolloff and his wife Beverly of Scarborough, his daughter Doreen Lane and her husband Bob of Scarborough; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to the staff at the VNA Hospice of Southern Maine and to the Barron Center in Portland for their loving care. Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an American Legion and Masonic Service followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route One, Scarborough.
