Jerel Carver was the son of Pleasant Carver and Mahala Bodenhamer. Jerrel enlisted in the Iowa Grand Army of the Republic, Co. C, 7th Iowa Infantry, when he was 16 years old. He married Isora Louella (Ella) Freeman and fathered two sons: Dr. Harry E Carver and Walter C. Carver.

"Jerrel Carver, was one of the early settlers of Mahaska county and was married here to Miss Izora Freeman, a native of Ohio, who was reared and educated, however, in Mahaska county and for a number of years was a capable teacher in the schools of Oskaloosa. Jerrel Carver is still a resident of Oskaloosa and is respected as one of its worthy and valued citizens." (Excerpt from pages 153-154 of the book, "Past and Present of Mahaska County, Iowa, 1906.")
