Clarice Pence, 90

Clarice Pence, 90, of Blair died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 15, in the chapel at good Shepherd Home. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Clarice Ryan was born Nov. 2, 1916, in Blair to James and Hanna (Jensen) Ryan. She attended school at Rose Hill and graduated from Blair High School in 1934.

After graduation, she went to work in Omaha. During World War II, she trained at the University of Nebraska as an aircraft assembly inspector and then went to work at the Glen L. Martin Bomber Plant at Fort Crook in Bellevue, where she met her future husband, Kenneth. They married on Aug. 25, 1946.

In 1949, they started Farmers Equipment Company in Blair, and retired from the business 25 years later. Mrs. Pence then began work as a cook at Crowell Home.

Besides work, she loved to sew, traveling with her husband and son, reading, discussing politics, and cooking. She so enjoyed making the big meals for her family dinners, and holiday meals were her best.

She missed her brothers and was thrilled when she got to visit Curt at his home in Arizona on her last trip. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, one grandson; brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; brothers, Russell, Perry, Kelly, Bob and Bill; and sister-in-law, Doris.
