Doris Zavodsky Doris Zavodsky of Galena, IL and formerly of Cable, WI was called home on February 21, 2013. In keeping with wishes there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. She was born in 1918 to Bernard and Lydia Eskildsen in Hampton, NE. Doris moved to Chicago shortly after her 18th birthday to begin a career with Armour and Co. There she met the late Adolph "Zav" Zavodsky, a chemist, and they were married in 1937. Zav and Doris moved to Glen Ellyn in 1948 and raised their three children. A week shy of her 95th birthday, Doris has spent the last 13 years in Galena, near family and friends. Prior to moving to Galena, she spent more than 30 years in Cable, WI living on the shores of Lake Namakagon. An accomplished pianist, Doris taught music to hundreds of kids in both Glen Ellyn and Cable over the years. While her preference was to keep a low profile and remain the teacher, her former students demanded a number of command performances over the years while she was with Drummond High School and as Music Director for Cable UCC. She is survived by her three children, Jeanne (Don) Carlson, James (Dawn) Zavodsky and Mary (Craig) Zilly, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her beloved, Zav, with whom she was married to for 54 years, her four siblings and one grandson, Daniel James Cook. Amongst those surviving her, several have enjoyed carrying Doris' love of music with them, helping to ensure her memory will live on. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 1670 JFK Road, Dubuque, IA 52002 in her memory. Online condolence may be left at www.furlongfuneralchapel.com.
