Claude Elwin Emerson, known as "Bill" his whole life, was born 28 Dec 1913 in Fair Grove, Greene Co. Missouri, to Walter Preston and Pearl Alma (Blair) Emerson. He graduated from Fair Grove High School in 1932 where he had been a talented Basketball Player. Bill died on 30 July 2005 in Hemet, Riverside Co., CA at the age of 91 years, 7 mos., 2 days, at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Bill was married to Nadine May Ruyle on 5 Sep 1939 in Springfield, Green Co., MO, and had been married for 65 years, 11 months at the time of Bills passing.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nadine Emerson of San Jacinto, CA, and son, Dwight Thomas (Jodine) Emerson of Saugus, CA; 6 grandchildren, Nicolas P. DeSisto and Debra L. (William) Conway of Tigard, OR,, David (Jayne) Rawlings and Robert T. (Tari) Rawlings, of Phoenix, AZ, Eric B. (Sesly) Emerson of Palmdale, CA, and Tracie C. (Daniel) Huffman, of Valencia, CA; 3 great grandchildren.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, a daughter, Billie Marie Rawlings, died 1996; baby granddaughter Dawn Conway; 3 brothers, Audray P. Emerson, James T. "Tom" Emerson, and Wayne P. Emerson; 3 sisters, Hazel Z. Cotter, Dazel A Harmon, and Juanita M. Wiseman.
Bill worked for Tri-State Service Co. in Springfield, MO. He worked on a dairy farm in Exeter, CA when he first came to Califonia from Missouri in the early 1940's. Bill and Nadine lived in South Gate, CA for some time and later bought a home in Gardena, CA. Bill retired from Western Geary Industry in Lynnwood in 1977 where he had worked as a machinist for 31 years.
Nadine retired from Greenacre Manufacturing in 1984. They moved to San Jacinto, CA in Jan 1985. They belonged to the Thousasnd Trails RV Club and traveled in their motorhome for many years. Bill was an avid Champion Horseshoe Pitcher with the San Jacinto/Hemet Horseshoe Pitchers Group and won several trophies for his prowess. He pitched Horseshoes into his 90's. He also had a horsehoe tournament named for him.
Bill was laid to rest in San Jacinto Valley Cemetery on 3 Aug 2005.
