A retired parole officer for the state of Louisiana and a resident of Morganza, he died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, New Roads. He was 73 and a native of Gretna. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Religious services at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Morganza, at 10 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Howard Hall. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by the mother of his children, Elaine McGraw Dawson; three sons, Dr. Robert Charles Dawson III, New Orleans, Dr. Mark H. Dawson, Rayne, and John M. Dawson, Morganza; three sisters, Lyle Ann Eichsteadt, Woodburn, Ore., Mary Dael Olinde, Jarreau, and Mae Merryll, Baton Rouge; a brother, Quentin Joseph Dawson, St. Francisville; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Robert Sr. and Dionysia Dawson; and two brothers, Calvert and Blasé Dawson.
