Deceased Name: Dawson, Ernestine

A resident of Albany, Ernestine passed away Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at North Oaks Medical Center at age 90. She was married for 62 years to the late Thomas W. Dawson Jr. Before her stroke 16 years ago, Ernestine was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Ernestine was an excellent cook, seamstress, loving and devoted Christian mother and a member of the Eastern Star Fern Leaf Chapter 24 O.E.S. She leaves behind a daughter, Carolyn J. Castanedo; a son, Tom Dawson and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Cathy Hughes and husband Paul and David S. Keen; along with five great-grandchildren, Stacy and Jonathan Hughes, Ryan, Brandon and Justin Keen. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Dawson. Preceding Ernestine in death were her husband, Thomas W. Dawson Jr.; and a son-in-law, Milton Castanedo. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to the religious services at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Albany on Monday, Oct. 4, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment in the church cemetery. The family would like to say a special thanks to her special caregivers, the late Elaine Manino, Lillie Glascock, Shannon Albin and Edna Hoyt, along with Dr. Drummond and the 3rd floor nursing staff at North Oaks Medical Center.
