Roberta "Bobbie" Jane Burwell, 82, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at her home in Bedford, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore.


Bobbie, as she was known by family and friends, was born on Feb, 23, 1931, at Bentley, Okla., to Robert and Abbie Gann. She grew up in Atoka County, Okla., and graduated from Tushka High School in Tushka, Okla., in 1948. Bobbie married Billy Gene Burwell in 1948 at Sherman, Texas. They were happily married for 65 years. She worked in Civil Service at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., as a personnel specialist for 28 years and afterward retired.


She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore. She accepted God's gift of salvation and became a Christ follower as a young woman in 1949. Bible study was of keen interest to her and she always enjoyed vibrant conversation on subjects from Genesis to Revelation. She served faithfully throughout her adult life as a Sunday school teacher and was always eager to share the Gospel of her savior Jesus Christ. She additionally enjoyed baking and making quilts. Bobbie wanted everyone to know that she enjoyed being with family and cherished those gatherings as times of great joy.


Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Abbie Gann; her brothers, Audy Gann, Claud Gann and David Gann; and her sisters, Minnie Tauscher, Lilly Bryant, Nancy Silcott and Mary Chappell.


She is survived by her husband, Bill Burwell, of Bedford, Texas; sons, Mike Burwell of Irving, Texas, and Roger Burwell of Shawnee; grandchildren, Jake Burwell, Adam Burwell, Christina Hernandez, and Paul Burwell; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Hannah, Cori, Sarah, Addison, Blake, Chandler, Dalton, and Ashleigh; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.


A visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home, , Ardmore.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 120 Veterans Blvd., Ardmore, OK, 73401.
