During the World War Alfred was required to register for the military draft. He did so at Boston, Massachusetts on September 12th 1918. Mr. Bessett was forty-five years old. The registrar measured his height at 5' 5" with a medium build. He had both brown eyes and hair. His home address at the time was 17 Vine Street at Roxbury, Mass. He reported that he was a cabinet maker for L. B. Gardner at 32 Ruggles St., Roxbury.

The Bessetts' daughter, Mildred, was also renting in the same building with her husband, Charles Williams, and their three children. Mr. Williams was a pharmacist at a drug store

1940 at 7 Circuit Street (owners) in Boston, MA: Alfred H. Bessett, 67, carpenter at a cold storage plant, and Allena V., 62. The Bessetts had become the owners of the property and they collected rent from their daughter's family which had grown by three more kids.

Mr. Bessett's death notice was found on GenealogyBank printed in the Boston Herald [Boston, MA} on December 15, 1940 pg. 95. Reportedly he passed away at Roxbury on December 13, 1940. The funeral was at his home at 7 Circuit Street in Roxbury on Dec. 16th. The notice listed his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Charles T. Williams.
