Anna was a young woman when her family came to the US in 1891. She married John Bertz in May of 1898. they had two children, Edmund Ivan Bertz, in Nov 1900, and Angela Ingeborg Bertz in Oct 1899. Angela married James F. Bock in 1920 in Seattle. Edmund died in Seattle in 1921. Anna was a very good cook and worked as a cook in several of the places they lived. The move to Washington was made when Edmund contracted TB. They lived in Alaska for a while, fishing and providing supplies to miners. After they moved to Washington, the family farmed for a while. After Angela married and Edmund died, Anna and John moved to Erie PA, where she was a "tea room cook and he worked in a furniture factory.
She died in 1934, bleeding to death after a Thyroid surgery. Her grandaughter, Virginia, remembered her as a kind woman, who loved children. She is buried with her family in Crystal Lake Cemetery. Her husband is buried with her, with a very small marker labled JB, in the family plot. There is a larger marker for him with his second wife, Sigrid.

Anna and John's son, Edmund Ivan Bertz, born in Gardner MA in 1900. He had TB, and they moved to the west coast. He died there, in Seattle, King County, Washington, in 1921 of influenza complicated by TB. I have been unable to locate his burial site.
