JOSEPH TRASTEK
(1848 - 1928)

CONTRACTOR OF EARLY 80’S DEAD
Resident Here 77 Years Passes Away At Family Home—Burial on Saturday

Joseph Trastek, 80, a resident of Manitowoc for 77 years, pioneer contractor of the early days, and member of the early day volunteer fire departments, and guard companies, and who for the past fifteen years has lived a retired life, passed away Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock at the home, 1228 South Thirteenth street.

Mr. Trastek has been confined to his bed for the past six months, an old leg injury, which he suffered fifteen years ago when he fell from a load of hay, returning to aggravate his condition and sap his vitality until the end came yesterday. Burial will take place on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the home, and at nine o’clock from the St. Boniface church, with interment at Calvary cemetery.

Born in Prague, Austria, Dec. 30, 1848, he came here in 1851 with his parents and has lived here ever since. He early took up the contracting business, doing railroad work, and later turning his attention to street building. He built many of the surfaced streets in the city.

Wife Survives Him
On October 1, 1876 he was married to Miss Katherine Korinek, who survives him.

Mr. Trastek was one of the members of the early volunteer fire department in Manitowoc, there now being but two surviving members, Gustave Streich and Paul Reiderer. The deceased was also a member of the early guard companies in the city and of the early fraternal insurance organizations.

Retired 15 Years Ago
He retired from active business fifteen years ago.

Besides the widow, two daughters, Mrs. B. Trowbridge of Milwaukee and Mrs. Anna Wade of this city and three sons, Frank, Joseph and Victor, all of this city, survive. One sister, Mrs. Michael Seidl, of this city and eight grandchildren also survive.
