(1919 - 2011)

Raymond H. Thielen, age 92, of 3603 Waldo Blvd., Manitowoc, went to his eternal rest Thursday, June 23, 2011.

He was born on March 2, 1919, in Manitowoc, son of the late Hugo and Rose (Kummer) Thielen. Ray was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. On January 29, 1941, he married the former Lorraine Schaft in Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 19, 1994. Ray was an acrobat with the Billy Schultz Circus and performed professionally with the Ringling Brothers Circus in Madison Square Garden with The Flying Gauchos who established a Business Book of World Records with a 5 man high act, which stood for over 50 years. Ray was also an avid golfer who scored three holes in one over his golfing career. He was employed with Grey Iron Foundry in Manitowoc for 38 years until his retirement on March 16, 1984. Ray was a member of the V.F. W. Otto Oas Post #659.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Estelle (Stella) Thielen, Chula Vista, CA; three nephews, Robert & Judy Clayton, Manitowoc, Butch Thielen, state of Washington, Ray & Elaine Clayton, Rogers, Arkansas; and five nieces: Betty Hoffman, Manitowoc, Jeanette Peterman, Two Rivers, Bonnie and Bob Warden, state of Washington, Linda & John Konechny, Manitowoc, and Tammy & Brian Heili, Manitowpc. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Edward & Gertrude Thielen and a nephew: Ellis (Butch) Clayton.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 3659.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 6:00 p.m. led by Rev. Tom Wojciechowski O.F.M. Friends and relatives may also call Tuesday morning at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. until morning prayers at 10:30 a.m.
