"Funeral Held Tuesday for John Lewis Holm
Funeral services for John Lewis Holm, a former resident of this community, who passed away at Compton, Calif., where he had resided for a few years, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Erickson funeral home here, and at Salem LUtheran church at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.
John Lewis Holm, son of the late John and Carolyn Holm, was born on the farm northeast of Roland on April 14, 1880, and died at his home at Compton, Calif., April 20, 1955, at the age of 75 years and six days.
He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. C.C. Holter in the Zion Lutheran church northeast of Roland. He was married to Louise Twedt on December 26, 1907. They farmed in this community until 1926, when they moved to Marshalltown. For the past six years they have made their home at Compton, Calif.
Mr. Holm is survived by his wife, three sons, Sylvester B. of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jesse A. of Norwalk, Calif., and Cecil of Compton, Calif., and three daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Wheeler of Compton, Calif., Nina (Mrs. Lloyd Blount) of Fullerton, Calif., and LaVerna (Mrs. Chas. Davidson) of Bellflower, Calif. Also nine grandchildren, andthree sisters, Mrs. Jake Gjerde of mcCallsburg, Mrs. Ed Anderson of Ames, and Mrs. Kunnel Lenning of Roland.
He is preceded in death by a son Ernest who died in 1934, one brother, Edward, and three sisters, Mrs. Clarence Knutson, Mrs. Bill Johnson, and Hannah, who died in youth."
