DERANGED BY ATTACK, INFLUENZA, GOTTFRIED SELK JUMPS FROM ROOM AT HOSPITAL, RUNS TO POLICE STATION

Mentally deranged, as a result of an attack of influenza, Gottfried Selk(sic), a shoemaker, who was confined at the Holy Family hospital, arose between 11 and 12 o’clock last night, broke the window of his room, which was on the first floor, jumped out, and, clad only in his underclothing, ran down town, and walked into the police station. The officers there removed him to the jail after bundling him up in warm blankets.

It is not known whether Selk, who was recovering from the influenza, will suffer any ill effects from his hike in scanty attire from the hospital to the police station. Should pneumonia set in it would probably be fatal to Selk.

Mr. Selk is a married man and has been employed at a South Eight street shoe store for years.
