THOMAS-IVERSEN,
Charlotte (Smith) Brokaw
Charlotte was 94 years young when she passed away on 9/21/13. She was the youngest of four children born in Franklin, CA. She graduated from Elk Grove H.S. and attended Sac City College. Charlotte was predeceased by three husbands: Omar Brokaw, Robert Thomas and Everett Iversen.
Charlotte is survived by beloved sons Mike Brokaw (Kate) of Gig Harbor, WA and Steve Thomas (Karen) of Healdsburg, CA; and loving step-children: Rogene Thomas Kirkegaard (Larry) of Chicago, Bob Thomas (Liz) of Forrest Ranch, CA, and Linda Iversen Garrett (Steve) of Reno, NV. She was pre-deceased by step-daughter Cynthia Iversen Bell of San Jose. Char has nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by adoring in-laws Irene Potter of Carmichael, Karl & Susan Potter of Granite Bay and Glen Snow of Beach, ND.

She met her first husband, Omar, at a dance in Sacramento. After his death in WWII, Char had a long & adventurous marriage to Robert until his passing in 1990. In 1963, Robert, a civil engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation and State Water Project in Sacramento, took a position with US AID in Afghanistan to build water project infrastructure. Char & son Steve spent two years in an American village at Lashkar Gah where they travelled throughout the region, meeting the last King of Afghanistan and climbing to the top of the historic Buddhas of Bamiyan.

Back in Sacramento, Char returned to work as a secretary for the California State Legislature and several governors until retiring to Honolulu, HI in 1973. She and Robert enjoyed playing golf, tennis and bridge and traveling all over the world.

Eight years after Robert's passing, the 78-year-old Charlotte eloped with the 87-year-old 'Iver' Iversen and moved from Honolulu to Novato. They spent 12 good years together until his death in 2010 at the age of 99.

Char is now at rest at the Masonic Lawn Cemetery in Sacramento. Donations may be made to the Memorial Hospice: www.seriousillness.org/sonoma-marin
