MURPHYSBORO - Rhonda Lou (Buford) Higgins, 67, of Elmhurst, N.Y., formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at her residence in Elmhurst at 6:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2005.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, in Pettett Funeral Home with John Graham officiating and burial will be in Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shepherd Fund at First Christian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Rhonda was born Sept. 3, 1938, in Grimsby, to Louis E. Buford and Wilma A (Whisler) Buford.
She was a graduate from Murphysboro Township High School in 1956.
In 1959, she moved to New York, where she first went to work for National Airlines.
She was married to Dayton Higgins June 9, 1962, at First Christian Church in Murphysboro, by Pastor A. J. Collins.
Later, Mrs. Higgins began working for the Boy Scouts of America and she retired last year as manager.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Heidi Higgins of Forest Hills, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Paul Ed McRoy of Murphysboro; one niece and her husband, Paula and Jon Baker of Herrin; two aunts, several cousins, and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Dion and her husband James Dion of North Scituate, R.I., and Beverly McCully of Wooster, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
