Marilyn Ramsey Clemmons, 91, of Woodville, Texas, passed away peacefully on, Wednesday, September 25, 2013.

Marilyn was born November 22, 1921 in Beaumont, Texas to Loren and Ethel Ramsey, but grew up on a large cattle ranch near McDade, Texas.

She married Morris Clemmons, Jr. July 3, 1943. After his service in World War II they lived for several years in Orange, Texas and then moved to Pope Mill near Hillister, Texas in 1950. The house had been built by one of the early doctors in Tyler County, Dr. E.D. Pope, her husband's grandfather and was featured in an early edition of the magazine, "House Beautiful". It was noted for its beautiful rose gardens which she tended with care because of her lifelong love of nature.

She taught school for over 32 years in Woodville. She also obtained her real estate license and worked with her husband in the real estate appraisal and insurance business. She was a graduate of the University of Texas with a BA in English and a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was an accomplished violinist. She was a member of the Woodville Women's Study Club, an early member of the Woodville Reading Club, lifelong member of the Woodville Heritage Society and a member of the Woodville United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School for many years. She was very active in the early years of the Dogwood Festival. She loved collecting sea shells and enjoying the beauty of the beaches and ocean.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Doug Ramsey and her daughter, Carolyn Clemmons.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Jack Kuehn; sister, Doris Stewart; three grandchildren, and one great grandchild; brother-in-law, Martin Clemmons and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was beloved by all.

Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
