Joseph Henry Higgins was born to Nelson and Nancy Maribah Behunin Higgins.


He married Margaret Ann Luster 22 Jun 1889 in Rico, Dolores, Colorado.

Together they had the following Eleven children: Jennie, Joseph Henry Jr., Florence Maribee, Margaret Ann, Reta Ella, Von Edith, Roscoe, Reuben Hyrum, Mary Melba, Effie La Vee, and Lillian Fawn Higgins.

Pioneer Resident of Sevier Valley Dies at Elsinore

Funeral services were held in the North ward chapel at Monroe Tuesday for Joseph Higgins, who died at his farm home near Elsinore following a short illness.


Bishop A. C. Lundgreen conducted the services. The ward choir sang the opening number. Jos. H. Jensen offered the invocation. Following another song by the choir, D. P. Jensen of Richfield, a boyhood chum and lifelong friend of Mr. Higgins, spoke of the integrity and honesty of Mr. Higgins. Bishop Leon T. Madsen of Elsinore also spoke of his uprightness his devotion as a husband and father. A male quartet directed by Thos. Ransom sang one number, and the benediction was offered by Albert O. Engar of Elsinore. Interment took place in the Monroe city cemetery.


Mr. Higgins was born at Richfield September 30, 1867, a son of Nelson and Nancy Higgins and was the first male child born there. His early life was spent in assisting to build up the community in which he lived. In 1899 he married Miss Margaret Ann Luster of Moab, who survives together with the following children: Mrs. Jennie Conder, Elsinore; Mrs. Florence Conder, Monroe; Mrs. Margaret Ross, Duchesne; Mrs. Reta Shelton. Marysvale; Mrs. Lillian Jensen, American Fork; Miss Melba Higgins, Butte, Montana; Miss Effie Higgins and Reuben Higgins, Elsinore. Surviving also are 23 grand children; 4 great grand children; two brothers, William and Louis Higgins of Monroe, and one sister Mrs. Retta Collings of California.
