Born in Carbondale, PA to Edgar Bogardus and Elizabeth Conklin, he came to Ypsilanti following his mother's death and lived with his uncle Isacc Conklin. He married Sarah Hall and had at least 3 children: Charles E, Fannie E and George H. He was a banker, a fireman, and the Postmaster. His funeral was at St Luke's on 5 April and he is buried in Block 100, Lot 22.
