Joseph Junior "Joe" Belcher, 86, of Parkersburg passed away July 23, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 12, 1923, at Ovapa, Clay County, W.Va., a son of the late Joseph and Julia Igo Belcher.

Joe was a graduate of Clay High School and attended the Broadway Baptist Church in Parkersburg. He retired from E.I. DuPont Washington Works with 39 years of service. He had served in First Army during World War II. He served at the Normandy Landing and had served in Paris, France, after the Paris Liberation and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Surviving is his sister, Hattie Garrett of Vienna; five persons that he considered as his grandchildren, David Martin, Joe Martin, Kriston Hubler, Cathy Hart and Becky Leap; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Thelma Mull, Bill Henderson, JoAnn Morrison, Harlan Hensley, Kay Large, George Belcher Jr., Rondell Belcher, Joan Smith, Patsy Garrett, Wanda Wamsley and Glenda Diller; several great-nieces and nephews; and several cousins, including Kaye Jett (and friend, Jerry Plougher) and Jill Jett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his life companion of 44 years, Wana Martin; six brothers, William "Billy" Belcher, Eddie Belcher, Ira Belcher, George Belcher, Charles Belcher and Virgil Belcher; and five sisters, Joda Butcher, Bessie Henderson, Blanche Porter, Violet Markle and Zelma Irene Parks.

The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with the Rev. Don Yeager officiating. The visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Belcher Family Cemetery in Clay County with graveside service at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday with military rites.
