Ella Shreve was born in March 1853, at Riceville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, to Henry Shreve and Elizabeth Cottrell. She spent most of her life in the Riceville area. She had a brother, William, and a sister, Carrie, who married Charles Rouse. While Ella grew up, she attended the Baptist Church. Ella married Albert Hamilton Pattison June 5, 1870 and they had six children: Charles C, Lillian, Hattie, Daisy Mae, Zepha and Maude. During the afternoon of Wednesday December 13, 1933, Ella had been sitting in the living room of her son Charles' home, located on the Concord Road about one mile east of Union City, Erie County, PA. She was listening to a program over the radio and complained of feeling faint. Her daughter-in-law, Charles' wife, assisted her to the bedroom and before she could be placed comfortably on her bed, she expired almost instantly. The eighty one year old Ella was survived by her son Charles and three daughters: Hattie, Daisy and Zepha. Also, she was survived by one sister, Carrie. Her funeral was held on Friday at 2 pm at her home and was conducted by Rev W H Dallman, the Baptist minister. She was then laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery.
