Joseph Lounsbury was born in Salamanca, New York. His parents were Daniel W. Lounsbury and Ella (Tobin) Lounsbury. He had two brother Daniel P. Lounsbury and James Lounsbury.

He was born and raised in Salamanca, where he attended Saint Patrick Parochial School with his brother Daniel. His mother held him back a grade...she wanted to have Dan and Joe to be twins while attending school.

Joe, Dan and James all played for the Seneca Street Warriors baseball team. He received his Holy Communion on April 9, 1934.

He enlisted on April 19, 1944 in Buffalo, New York. He was a private in the Air Corps enlisted Reserve or Medical Administrative Corps. He also served in the Guam Camp Knight. He was discharged on August 19, 1948. Was awarded a Business Administration Diploma in Accounting Major from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo.

On November 19, 1955 he married Mary Shewairy. He and his wife were residents of Williamsvile, New York. They did not have any children. He was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District.

He was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Church of Williamsville, the National Association of Engineers and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Williamsville.

Services were held at St. Joseph's Church and Letro McIntosh Funeral Home. At the time of death he was survived by his wife Mary, and his two brother Dan and James.
