h/o Mary P. Stowers
CSA Service: Company F, Virginia 45th Infantry Regiment, Parole of Honor, June 22, 1865.
Jackson Stowers was one of the outstanding soldiers who fought for the South in the Civil War. He was cited for bravery many times during the war. In the battle of Cloyd's Mountain, Northern Dublin, Virginia, Jack Stowers and his men were forced to retreat because a Yankee Cavalry was coming toward them in force. Many of the soldiers were killed and Jackson Stowers fell in a small stream and pretended to be dead. A Yankee solder came by and stuck him with a bayonet and said, "he is a big SOB." After the cavalry continued, Jackson climbed out of the creek and escaped to his company.
