Civil War service. Second liuetenant and captain, Company K, 20th New York State Militia. Served 1861-1863.
Wounded in the knee during the Battle of Antietam. "Was struck by a piece of shell which nearly tore his leg from his body", during the Battle of Gettysburg. This created a mortal wound.
