Alice was born on June 18, 1948, to Rev. Innocent and Edna (Foster) Goodhouse in Wakpala, South Dakota. Alice was an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She was known as WowaunsilaWin (Compassionate Woman).
She attended St. Elizabeth's in Wakpala, SD, and graduated high school from St. Mary's Episcopal School for Indian girls in Springfield, SD. She went to Nursing School in Albuquerque, NM. Alice was a generous hearted woman who loved to be around people. Her career as a nurse allowed her to work with people, and to work many places. Her first nursing job was in New York City and she always dreamed of returning there someday. She worked with IHS and with the Standing Rock Tribes. In her later years, she retired from nursing and began working at the Prairie Knights Casino.
Alice loved to do crafts and she was gifted in many of them. She spent many hours making beautiful beadwork and sewing for her children. She had a flair for cooking and baking, and was known for her beautifully decorated cakes. She loved spending time with her husband. She was an avid reader, and was a very strong supporter of her children's education from Headstart through college. Alice enjoyed playing bingo, and visiting and laughing with family and friends over a good meal. As the second oldest of ten children, she is remembered by her siblings as the one who helped raise them–her younger siblings often referred to her as "Mom"–and taught them useful skills such as cooking, shopping for clothes, and sharing her love of music and dancing with them. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses. Other hobbies included crocheting, and cooking for community gatherings.
She is survived by her children; daughters, Randee (Herman Jr.) Pipe, Austintown, OH, Sunny (Justin) Guillory, Bellingham, WA; son, Charles (Crystal) Walker, Fort Yates; her sisters, Johanna Goodhouse, Fort Yates, Emma Goodhouse, Mandan, Carmine Goodhouse, Fort Yates, and Josephine Woody (Ambrose), Bloomfield, NM; and her brothers, Innocent James Goodhouse, Black Hills SD, Cedric (Sissy) Goodhouse, Fort Yates; nine grandchildren, Kendal, Rebekah, Hermanee, Uriah, Jazen, Eliana, Andrea, Charlee "Tinee"; one great-grandchild, Jaxton; and her special granddaughter, Priscilla. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, and relatives too numerous to mention.
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph; her parents, Rev. Innocent and Edna Goodhouse; and her brothers, Randolph Hutchinson, Kenneth Goodhouse, and infant brother, Albert.
