Mr. Odis Thornhill, 88, of Hamburg died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. A native of Ashley County, a Hamburg resident for the past 56 years and a former resident of Monticello, he retired from the Georgia-Pacific paper mill in 1973 after 19 years of service. A member and senior deacon of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Oria Morrow Thornhill, in 1993; his parents, Thomas Whitfield and Lottie Herring Thornhill; and a brother, Addison Thornhill. Survivors are three sons, T. J. Thornhill of Paris, TX, Lee Thornhill of Hamburg and Willie Fred Thornhill of Lufkin, TX; three daughters, Martha Jane Scroggins of Bastrop, LA, LaNell Morgan of Start, LA, and Bonnie Evelyn Laughlin of Lake Village; a brother, Whit Thornhill of Monticello; two sisters, Ludie Smith of Hamburg and Vera Allen of Monticello; 25 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Joel Meredith and Charles Pullin officiating. Pallbearers were Tommy Morgan, Aubrey Scroggins, Rodney Laughlin, Steven, Terry and Brent Thornhill. Honorary pallbearers were the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church deacons and the Men's Sunday School Class. Burial followed services at the Flat Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O.
