William D. "Dave" Bellamy

William D. "Dave" Bellamy, 87, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by his family, on Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Kingsport on December 3, 1925, Mr. Bellamy attended Sullivan High School. He was discharged as a Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class from the Naval Service of the United States after serving during World War II from 1944 to 1947 at Great Lakes, Illinois and Guam.

He was described by friends and family as one of the kindest, gentlest men they had encountered. Mr. Bellamy was happiest when he was with his family and was enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and a fishing enthusiast. He was a self-employed contractor, and he also worked as a carpenter with several construction companies and TVA. He was very proud of his carpentry and could recall fond memories and fine points of his work until just before his illness.

Mr. Bellamy was preceded in death by his parents, H.K. and Dora Bellamy; his brothers, John Alfred "Jack" Bellamy and J.L. Bellamy; and a grandson, Chris Chapman.

Mr. Bellamy is survived by his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, Jean Bellamy, and his five children: David Harkleroad of Church Hill; Patsy Chapman and husband Dennie of Kingsport; Teresa G. Burnette and husband Cisco of Kingsport; W. Steve Bellamy and wife Ronda of Cody, Wyoming; and Sharon K. Thacker and husband Chad of Surgoinsville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Michael Harkleroad of Kingsport; Jeff Chapman and wife Becky of Kingsport; Sunny Beasley of Erwin; Brandy Burnette of Greeneville; Teresa Burnette Lord and husband Kent of Birmingham, Alabama; Amber Hill of Church Hill; Chadra Thacker of Mount Carmel; and Abigail Harvey of Surgoinsville. In addition, he is survived by six great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bellamy's surviving brothers and sisters are Ethel West of Englewood, Florida; Mary Elizabeth "Betts" Larkins and husband Elmer of Church Hill; and Thurman Bellamy of St. Albans, West Virginia. His surviving brothers- and sisters-in-law are Glen Davis and wife Eunice of Fall Branch; Richard Davis and wife Gladys of Fall Branch; Carl Davis of Washington County; and Judy Reeks and husband Mike of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel at Oak Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 4th, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Ginger Isom, officiating.

The Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Garden of Meditation at Oak Hill Memorial Park. (Those wishing to attend the service should plan on arriving at the cemetery no later than 10:45 AM.) Military Rites will be accorded by Kingsport Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 of the American Legion.

Mike Jackson, John Andrew Allen Bellamy, Chad Thacker, Michael Harkleroad, Jeff Chapman, Kent Lord, and Michael Rose will serve as Pallbearers.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the care provided to Mr. Bellamy and his family by the staff of Holston Medical Group, the nurses of Amedisys Hospice, and the nurses, physicians, and supporting staff of Holston Valley Medical Center's Wilcox Hall, SICU, and fifth-floor ICU.
