Lawrence (Larry) J. Kraft, 69, died in Mt. Vernon, WA on September 20, 2013.

Larry was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on December 13, 1943 to Jacob (Jack) and Rose (Blotske) Kraft. He grew up on the family farm in Selfridge, ND with his two sisters and two brothers. He enjoyed his time helping his dad in the fields on a tractor and tinkering in the garage into the late night hours. Larry graduated from Selfridge High School in 1962 and went on to the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton receiving a certificate in mechanics and welding.

He decided to try his luck in Seattle, moved to Washington in 1965 and started working in Star Machinery fixing Bobcats. He met his future wife, Ann Helen Hansen, at a house party in Seattle. She had emigrated from Norway, and captured his heart at first glance. After a whirlwind three-month courtship, they were married in Oslo, Norway in 1969.

Larry and Ann had three children and settled in Lynnwood, WA to raise their family. They were active in their church, St. Thomas More, and he was active in the jail ministry within the church. Larry was a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus.

Larry was a good provider for his family. His childhood interest in mechanics carried him to a career in construction/excavating. While his children were young he started his business, Kraft Excavation, primarily operating Bobcat excavators for all varieties of earth moving. Everything from building rockeries to foundations, there was no job too big or too small that Larry couldn't handle.

The Kraft home was a central gathering place for many family holidays and special occasions. As grandchildren entered their lives, Larry could always be counted on to carry and calm the babies by walking around or sitting with a sleeping child on him for hours. Larry and Ann enjoyed traveling between their children's homes to visit their grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ann, and their children: Erik Kraft and Phyllis Gillman (Seattle, WA), Tor and Darlene Kraft (Bellevue, WA), Katherine and George Litz (Everett, WA); six grandchildren: Alissa, Maggie, Dag, Briar, Greyson and Marcus; four siblings; Marie (Pete) Schmidt (Lynnwood, WA), Juliann Kraft (Bismarck, ND), Pat (Terry) Kraft (Tacoma, WA); Ron (Kristie) Kraft (Seattle, WA); nieces and nephews that adored their Uncle Larry and many cousins.

A Rosary/Vigil will be held Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Solie Funeral home in Everett, WA. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rood Chapel, Shoreline, WA with entombment to follow. A reception will follow at the home of his daughter, Katherine Litz.
