Elysburg Man Who Slashed Throat To End Life, Succumbs
Charles Klingman, 58, Dies at Geisinger Hospital from Effects of Wound He Inflicted With Razor in His Garage Last Thursday
Charles Klingman, 58, of Elysburg, who last Tuesday morning while suffering from melancholy and lack of employment severely gashed his throat with a razor
while seated on a box in a garage at the rear of his home where he was discovered by his wife, died quite suddenly at 2:45 this morning at the Geisinger Memorial Hospital at Danville...
Charles Klingman was the son of John and Henrietta Mensch Klingman and was born in Union county. He was married 30 years ago to Miss Ada Vought, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Vought and for many years the couple successfully engaged in farming in Shamokin Hills, retiring 16 years ago to make their home in Elysburgh.
Some years ago Mr. Klingman was severely injured when he drove in front of a Reading train at the Eight and Water streets crossing, this city, and never fully regained strength. He was employed for several years in the Salzberger and Daniel silk mills at Elysburg but following resumption of that operation after a period of idleness, he was unable to obtain re-employemnt. this worried the diligent man and with ill-health coming quite recently, it is believed the two served to undermine his mentality and prompt self-destruction.
Surviving Mr. Klingman are his widow, and the following brothers and sisters: Marr, John and William Klingman, of Sunbury; Mrs. Sadie Pensyl, Shamokin Hills and Mrs. Frank Adams, Elysburg.
Religiously, Mr. Klingman had been a devout and active member of the Vought Lutheran Church, of which congregation he was financial secretary at the time of his death. He was also an active member of the Elysburg Lodge of Masons.
