Retired. Columbus Police Lieutenant Orvel Lynn Joiner 58, of Columbus died Friday, September 20, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital following complications from heart surgery.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Cascade Hills Church with Dr. Bill Purvis officiating.

The family will receive friends Monday September 23, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.

Lt. Joiner was born April 20, 1955 in Del Norte, Colorado. Son of James Clayton and Elsie Lou Biggs Joiner of Micanopy, Fl.

He retired September 01, 2013 after 37 years with the Columbus Police Department assigned to the Robbery/Homicide Division.

He was a 1973 graduate of Kendrick High School, Columbus, Georgia and a graduate of Columbus State University with a Masters degree in Public Administration and a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.

Lt. Joiner was a member of Cascade Hills Church and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Survivors other than his parents include
his wife Amy Michelle Moore Joiner of Columbus, Ga.,

two daughters;
Ramsay Fowler Joiner Alexander and
Deborah Lane Joiner Hunsinger (Brandon);

one grand daughter, Hensley Shae Hunsinger;

one step-daughter Hillary Sargent;
one step-son, Stephen Sargent;

sister, Ramona Kay Joiner Carney of Quitman, Ga.,

niece, Alayna Kay Carney of Quitman, Ga.,

cousin, Pam and Jerry Biggs of Colorado;

Uncle and Aunt, Ernest Dale and Bonnie Jo Stanley Biggs both of Monument, Colorado.

Numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins in Florida and Colorado.
