Charles William Heisler - Obituary - Springfield News-Sun
HEISLER, Charles William passed peacefully into our Savior's loving arms on November 15, 2011. Chuck was born on February 20, 1925 in Springfield, the seccond son of Thomas Benson Heisler and Sarah Evelyn (Pence) Heisler. Like many of his generation, he same from humble beginnings and worked hard to achieve his place in life. Churck was a 1943 graduate of Springfield High School, and attended classes in drating/engineering Wittenberg College. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Louise VanOss, on October 20, 1945, and they spent the next 66 years together living and loving each other, and raising a family. Early in his career Chuck worked at International Harvester, the Champion Co. and Quick Mfg. He retired from Cooper Industries and subsequently worked as as engineer at Corrotec Inc. for several years. Chuck was also a past President of the Springfield Management Club. He served his country in the United States Army during W.W. II, as an X-ray techinician stationed in Belize, Brazil. Chuck was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a Mason. He also helped establish the "Gold Shoe" award sponsored by Springfield High School Class of '43. He and Doris always enjoyed traveling, and did so fairly extensively in later years. They visited Europe, hosted by their daughter and son-in-law, for their 50th wedding anniversary. Additionally, they traveled over much of the U.S., including Hawaii several times. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Robert Heisler. In addition to his wife Doris, he is surrvived by is three children, Marc, Jannis (Lewis) Mattson and Jon (Debra) Heisler, grandchildren Lewis Mattson Jr. and Sandra (Marc) Gibson, great granchild Anthony Gibson, nephews Kurt and Eric Heisler, niece Sylvia Heisler, and sister-in-law Maryellen Heisler. Visitation will be held from 4PM until 7PM Friday November 18, 2011 in the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home where services will be held at 10AM Saturday. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery
