Shirley Elaine Tweed, 73, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2013 in Renton, WA.

Shirley was born November 22, 1939, to Merlin and Helen (Alertson) Spilde, in Albert Lea, MN. She grew up in rural Northwood Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1961. She met her future husband, Gerald Tweed, in Latin class at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa and the two were joined in Holy Matrimony on August 6, 1961 at Northwood, IA. She taught elementary school in Kansas and Iowa through the 1960's and in 1970 the family moved to Seattle, WA. Shirley was active in church and school activities. She was adamant in the education of her children and yet compassionate with their friends. She enjoyed playing bridge and scrabble, and reading. She loved traveling with her husband in the great Northwest.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gerald; one daughter, Kiera; two sons, Randall and Bradley; two grandchildren, Layla and Ivy; four nephews and six nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arlo and Mark Spilde.

Celebration of her life will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Bellevue, WA at 1pm on October 19, 2013. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, at 2:15pm on the 18th of October. Remembrances may be addressed to Hopelink.
