Obituary for Luella Beth Miller
Luella Beth Miller, 92, of Manchester, died Monday, March 20, 2006 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 24, 2006 at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester by Rev. Kurt Pasko. Friends may call from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.

Beth was born on October 23, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Samuel G. & Myrtle E. (Sumner) Courtney. At the age of four, Beth moved with her family to Cedar Rapids. She graduated in 1932 from the Cedar Rapids Washington High School and in 1936, from Coe College. Beth married George A. Hallenbeck in 1936. The couple later divorced. On June 23, 1952 Beth married Harold J. Miller in Manchester. Beth, Dan and Ted moved to Manchester where they became a part of Harold�s family adding three daughters, Marilyn, Bonnie and Gale and a son, Al. Beth was a member of Community Congregational Church in Manchester, where she served on the Board of Deacons and was a member of Kensington and Martha Groups. She was a member of Chapter AS of the P.E.O. Sisterhood of Manchester and a former member of Chapter FO, where she was initiated in 1937. At Coe College, Beth was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and past-president of the Y.W.C.A.

Beth is survived by three sons, Dr. Daniel (Carolyn) Hallenbeck of Pensacola, FL, Dr. Theodore R. (Linda) Hallenbeck of Hudson, OH, Al (Jan) Miller of Manchester; two daughters, Marilyn Ortberg of Columbus Junction and Gale Westemeier of Dyersville; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Forest S. Rittgers, Jr. and Courtney S. Rittgers. Beth was preceded in death by her two husbands, George A. Hallenbeck and Harold J. Miller; a daughter, Bonnie Sullivan; one granddaughter, Lynn Marie Ortberg; two grandsons, Jeff Westemeier and David Sullivan; a sister and her husband, Gail & Forest S. Rittgers, Sr.; three sons-in-law, Bob Sullivan, David Westemeier, and Ralph Ortberg.
