John was born July 9, 1923, at Orrin, to Nick and Phyllis Adam, and was reared in that area. He then joined the Navy, serving from March 1945 until July 1946, in Asia and the Pacific during World War II aboard the USS Harwood. Following his discharge he returned to North Dakota and married LaVerne Kriedeman February 28, 1950, at Towner.
Living in Minot, John owned and operated Johnny's Conoco for a number of years. In 1963, he became employed at the Minot Country Club as foreman of greens and grounds and in 1967 he was named superintendent and retired due to ill health in 1980.
John was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, the National Golf Course Superintendents Association, and served one term as president of the North Dakota Golf Course Superintendents Association.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Daniel and David, both of Minot, three grandchildren; brothers, Mike and Anton, both of Minot, Frank, of Warwick; sisters, Catherine Linghor, Minot, Doris Welk, Rugby, Veronica Volk, Puyallup, Washington, Elizabeth Zacher, Fremont, California, Frances Gange, Great Falls, Montana, and Phyllis Schiele, Ray, North Dakota.
Funeral services were held, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
