Mrs. Ethel Newman Patton Smith, age 71, of Happy Hollow community, passed away September 20, 2013 at her residence. She was born December 2, 1941 in Grapeland, Texas and was a lifelong resident of the area. Mrs. Smith was a housewife.

Survivors include her best friend and father of her children, Buster Patton of Happy Hollow; daughter, Carolyn Carroll and husband Buck of Happy Hollow; sons, Billy Patton and wife June of Grapeland, Tommy Patton and wife Donna of Happy Hollow, Donald Patton and wife Anita of Carthage, and Jason Patton and wife Lisa of Happy Hollow; grandchildren, Christi, Nikki, Josh, Jon, B.J., Jimmy, Jennifer, Tommy Joe, Misty, Jeanne, Julia, Daniel, Emily, Sarah, Maddie, Mandy, Jessica, and Susan; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Brooke, Luke, Mitchell, Maddie, Matthew, JaLynn, Avery, Taylor, Destiny, Judah, Timothy, Nathan, Tyler, RaeLynn, Kayla, Caden, Braden, Austyn, Landrie, and Levi; sisters, Irene Allen, Betty Dow and husband Harold, Helen Lick and husband Bob, Wanda Burke (Aunt BB) and husband David, Bonnie Jones and husband Bob; brothers, Jimmy Newman and wife Jackie, Troy Newman and wife Jeri, and Dean Newman and wife Candy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, M.L. "Smitty" Smith; daughters, Joyce Ferguson, Sissy Patton; grandson, Clint Ferguson; and parents, Harry and Biddie Newman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Newman Patton Smith will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Milligan Cemetery with Rev. Tim Allen officiating.
