"Sinclair Ernest Carpenter was born in Lisbon, Iowa, December 6, 1889. Sinclair Carpenter graduated from the University of California in 1912, in the same class with my mother, Ruth (Pitman) Coman. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi honorary Engineering fraternity." (Catherine (Coman) Edgecombe) Sinclair was an engineer and worked for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The Carpenter family lived in Oakland where all three children were born. The family moved to Los Angeles and then to Avalon, where the children attended school. Clair worked for the Island Company. During World War II, Clair worked for Vega Aircraft. After the war, Vega became part of Lockheed, where Clair retired. Clair had a beautiful singing voice, and Charlotte accompanied him on the piano. After Charlotte died, he married Lillian Wells Carpenter, his brother Leo's widow. Her second husband had also died. She died September 24, 1968." (Sinclair E.
